Description:
In Nairobi's metropolitan area, urban transportation faces challenges due to the lack of rules, leading to unpredictable schedules and safety risks like harassment, speeding and overcrowding. The project aimed to tackle these issues by introducing a public bus management system to improve oversight and administrative processes, ensuring safe, inclusive and reliable transport system.

Scope of Work:
Review of policies and laws governing matatus, identification of stakeholders and their relationships, and analysis of the matatu industry's business model.

    Period: 2018 - 2019

    Description:
    The project focused on improving road safety in Nairobi by identifying challenges and proposing mitigation measures involving stakeholders. It aimed to assess the business environment in the matatu industry and explore its potential for enhancing road safety.

    Scope of Work:
    Basic Study, Data Collection, Entry and Analysis, Proposed recommendations, Coordination and Organizing Road Safety Workshops, Technical Transfer for Road Safety principles to stakeholders.

    Description:
    The study aimed to collect, analyse, and present data on Nairobi's traffic conditions to assess key projects in the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (NIUPLAN).

    Scope of Work:
    We compiled and reviewed reports and policies to understand transportation challenges, conducted a traffic volume survey, and simulated demand projections for present and future urban and transport development scenarios. Interviewed donor organisations to understand the progress of their activities and implementation challenges regarding the NIUPLAN. Subsequently, we proposed priority projects based on updated traffic volume data.

    Description:
    The project aimed to contribute to the effective implementation of urban transport projects in Kigali, considering the city's growth, traffic challenges, and existing development plans. The survey aligned with the Kigali City Transportation Master Plan (KTMP) and specific studies for intersection improvement.

    Scope of Work:
    Analysed qualitative data, including the government's development strategy and master plans. Studied potential Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects based on current traffic characteristics and demand forecasts. Evaluated intersection improvement components and explored a multi-faceted approach involving grant aid, technical assistance, and loan aid. Subsequently, the survey results contributed to updating the existing KTMP.

    Period: 2022 - 2025

    Description:
    Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is faced by urban transport challenges due to rapid population growth, with projections reaching 12 million by 2040. The government partnered with Japan to implement Transit Oriented Development (TOD) along Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines. Despite BRT Phase 1 being operational and Phase 2 being under construction, poor coordination among transportation, urban development, and land use has hampered progress. The project aimed to enhance public transport accessibility and efficiency by aligning development around public transport infrastructure.

    Scope of Work:
    GIS mapping, organized meetings with various stakeholders, subsequently made recommendations to enhance coordination among relevant agencies, improve planning, and strengthen the capabilities of officials responsible for urban development and public transportation.
