Our Impact in Action: Koei Africa Mentors the Next Generation

28th March 2026 | NAIROBI, KENYA

On 28 March 2026, the Koei Africa team came together to deliver a Career Mentorship and Youth Empowerment initiative at Mary Immaculate Rehabilitation Centre (MIRC) in South B, Nairobi. Held under the theme “My Future, My Path,” the CSR activity reached 56 rehabilitated street boys, providing inspiration, career exposure, encouragement and renewed confidence in their ability to shape their future.

MIRC supports boys recruited from the streets across South B, South C, Nairobi West, Fuata Nyayo, Kayaba, Lunga Lunga, Reuben and Mukuru Kwa Njenga areas. Most boys stay at the Centre for about one year, during which they undergo medical treatment, counselling, education assessment and psychosocial support, while social workers work to trace and reconnect them with their families. During this period, boys are enrolled in basic education pathways or vocational training, including nationally recognised courses such as Grade III Carpentry, enabling them to leave with practical skills and renewed confidence. Family tracing and home visits are central to the programme, ensuring safe reintegration and long‑term stability.

After rehabilitation, many boys return home with their families following a graduation ceremony held at the end of the year. Those who are orphaned or unable to reunite with family, are supported through apprenticeships, school sponsorships and follow‑up to help them transition into independent, productive lives.

The programme included a corporate presentation which introduced Koei Africa’s work in infrastructure and development. This was followed by an inspiring leadership journey shared by our director which emphasized discipline, prayer and curiosity. Koei Africa colleagues actively participated by sharing personal career journeys and engaging the boys in open, honest conversations about personal drive, growth and hard work. The boys were introduced to diverse career pathways including engineering, computer science, GIS, finance, agriculture and administration demonstrating many meaningful pathways to success.

The program was further strengthened by a testimony from a former Centre beneficiary now pursuing Computer Science at university. He brought to reality that transformation after rehabilitation is achievable, inspiring the boys to remain focused on their education and personal growth.

In addition to mentorship, the team supported the Centre through donations of foodstuffs, sports equipment, educational supplies, career books with autographed messages by Koei Africa staff and branded school bags, alongside a shared meal that enabled meaningful connections.

This initiative was a powerful reflection of our shared values, people‑centred development, leadership with purpose and community impact. Thank you to all colleagues who gave their time, energy and heart to making this day meaningful. Together, we continue to build not only infrastructure but futures.
